Designed and implemented a gateway for transferring data between an Altos multi-user system and an IBM38 mainframe.
Users entered data into remote radio-terminals, which sent the information to the Altos system.
The complex and robust transfer protocol was defined by the client.

Our client had a Siemens programmable device that he used to control programmable machines. He had developed a collection of applications for that device, but couldn't figure out how to print the source code of those applications.
I bought an RS232 interface for their device, made the cable, set up the connection and trained the users.

Developed an interface for real time data synchronization between Oracle databases, through a specific LAN. Low layers were written in 8086 assembly language, upper layers in C. At this time, LANs were far from being as popular and off-the-shelf as they are now. LAN programming was much more experimental than industrial.
Keywords: C, 8086, PRO*C, Oracle, SQL, Protocol converter, DOS, PC

Developed an application to process file transfers between Apple 3 and PC.
Main objective was to improve productivity on a series of Apple-to-PC ports.
Custom protocol included batch and interactive modes, checksum control, error checking and half-duplex.
This application is 100% portable, which makes maintenance much easier : the same source code compiles on both Apple and PC.
If you're curious, I used this application to transfer its own source code from one platform to another, making upgrades easier!
Keywords: RS232, Pascal, UCSD, Apple, PC
Duration: 1 month
